Entering Woods Hole from Buzzards Bay

Woods Hole on a good day

Woods Hole on a bad day......

The currents run very strong through Woods Hole, which is
actually an S shaped channel that leads from Vineyard Sound to Buzzards Bay.
Sections of the channel are very narrow, so that huge volumes of water rush
through at frightening speeds, but that is not the problem in navigating through
the Hole. The problem is that on any given summer day, at slack tide, you can
expect to always encounter all kinds of pleasure and working boats, going all
kinds of speeds, throwing up huge wakes, oblivious to all those around them.
Always a challenge.
